You may ask why this lens has been announced - when Voigtlander already have a 50mm f1.1. The 50mm f1.2 is a brand new lens design, with a similar specification to the exceedingly popular 40mm f1.2 VM lens.

This lens features two aspherical elements & a 12 aperture blade diaphragm - allowing exceptional performance from F22 all the way to wide open.

The 50mm f1.2 is designed for use with both digital and film photography and is equipped with a rangefinder coupling cam. The minimum close focus distance of this lens is 70cm.

Both the LH-8 and LH-10 lens hoods can be used with this lens. The LH-10 is a brand new lens hood designed for this lens, though you can also use the more compact LH-8.

The NEW Voigtlander APO-Lanthar 50mm f/2 Aspherical lens for Leica M-Mount cameras is based on the Sony E-Mount version released last year (2020), and has been optimised for full-frame M-mount sensors. Voigtlander only gives the APO-Lanthar title to high-performance products, those with ?outstanding imaging performance?.

Optically the lens is constructed of 10 elements in eight groups, with two abnormally dispersed glass elements and two double-sided aspherical lenses along with a floating mechanism. This produces perfectly circular bokeh wide open and also closed down as far as f/5.6 thanks to its 12-bladed diaphragm. The COLOR SKOPAR 50mm F2.2 is a manual focus standard lens optimized for full size VM mount sensors. Cosina lens designers succeeded in reducing the exterior lens barrel length to only 30mm, despite this being a 50mm F2.2 standard lens.

High performance optics using 7 elements in 6 groups including 3 elements of anomalous partial dispersion glass achieve excellent optical performance even wide open at F2.2. It is possible to focus beyond the minimum rangefinder distance of 0.7 m and up to 0.5 m with the interlocking of the rangefinder. It is effective when shooting with a camera equipped with a live view function.

It comes with a compact, straight-type hood that is shaped so that it does not obstruct the rangefinder camera rangefinder window.
