Furthermore, with its eleven blade iris, this new generation lens creates a circular aperture, lending out of focus areas an extremely smooth look and feel. The ten lens elements are divided into five groups; three elements feature aspherical surfaces (one of them on both sides). Six elements are made of glasses with anomalous partial dispersion, which not only reduce chromatic aberrations to almost zero, but also provide apochromatic correction ?a quality that is rarely found in lenses of this focal length.

Possible by a patent-pending double cam unit newly developed by Leica engineers. As a result, the rotation angle of the focus ring could be almost doubled to 176°in comparison to the previous model – with the same compact size of the lens.
